Whimsyshire Awaits

There's most certainly not a cow level this time...

By Dylan Coffey on 5/16/2012
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is a powerful work of art, one which has influenced the direction of the Internet as a whole for nearly a year now. Bronies and pegisisters have found their way in to every nook and cranny of the web, and their beliefs are felt in almost every aspect of our subculture. Their love for this children's show is deep and controversial; while many appreciate the dry humor and positive outlook of the bronie community, others find their obsession with a children's television show off-putting. Fortunately, one gaming company has found the courage to create an effigy of this movement, allowing gamers to express themselves safely in regards to the bronie phenomenon. Behold: Whimsyshire.

Gaining entry to Whimsyshire is an arduous task, and those wishing to discover the secret by their own wits would be well to stop reading here. That is to say, past this sentence, there are spoilers regarding  Diablo III.

That said, gaining entrance to Whimsyshire, the secret level in Diablo III, is a somewhat challenging but eminently rewarding task. Required are the following items, to be combined in to a Staff:
  • Black Mushroom, which is found the first level of Act 1's cathedral.
  • Shinbone, found in a fireplace in Leoric's Manor during Act 1.
  • Liquid Rainbow, found in the Oasis within a Mysterious Chest in a Mysterious Cave during Act 2.
  • Wirt's Bell, sold by a merchant in Act 2.
  • Gibbering Gemstone, dropped from Chiltara in Act 3's Caverns of Frost. This mob doesn't always appear; just try again if it doesn't.
  • The plans themselves drop randomly from Izual in Act 4.
With the Staff, Whimsyshire is available to the player, along with a Feat of Strength, banner, and sigil for the trouble. Get to work, folks; Whimsyshire won't wait forever.

OH MY GOD! This is kinda cool, even though I'm not a Bronie guy in any way

Wasn't expecting that combination of game and area to exist. Go figure. Pretty cool though. (Tried to keep it as spoiler free as possible in the comments)
