Star Wars: The Old Republic Outselling BF3, Beta Begins September

Battlefield 3 is falling behind in the pre-order race, unconfirmed reports say DICE is "kinda depressed, but mostly confused"

By Alex Gralski on 7/27/2011

The good folks at DICE and EA may have done a more impressive marketing job with Battlefield 3, but it seems word of mouth and the Star Wars brand have made good on their massive potential. According to EA President Frank Gibeau, pre-orders for the upcoming, BioWare-developed Massively Multiplayer Online Space-Knight-Wizard Game (or MMOSKWG) are outselling those for DICE's highly anticipated multiplyaer shooter.

This is despite the impending release date for Battlefield 3, and it's also in spite of the total absence of a release date for Star Wars: The Old Republic. However, the recent announcement that "beta-test weekends" will begin for selected players (who have signed up here, of course) in September may have something to do with that. Additionally, according to a conference call EA will also finally announce a release date for SWTOR in September. So, looks like it'll be a big month for Star Wars fans with an MMO-shaped hole in their lives.

you do realize that every mmo that is worth its salt has a monthly fee associated with it. Especially if its popular the demand on the servers costs $ and they get that money from part of the fees.

I really hope I dont have to pay $15 a month for this. That is the only reason I stopped playing WoW.

If I have to pay a monthly fee to play...then they better be giving away the game for free. Just like WoW.

You mean psuedo-free? The free version of WoW is pretty paltry compared with the actual, full version.

Here's the FAQ's section that shows all you can't do with it.
