Resident Evil 6 Gets a New Release Date

Normally, with high profile AAA titles like the Resident Evil franchise, developers take plenty of time to make sure that the best possible final game available gets released. More often than not, a game gets pushed back a few times so more work can be accomplished on it. However, Capcom has surprised a good number of people by announcing that Resident Evil 6 will come out earlier, not later.

A good deal of new information about the game has been released in the trailer above, besides just the new release date. For one, we finally found out the identity of the mysterious man seen working alongside Chris Redfield in China in the announcement trailer. Turns out, it's none other than Albert Wesker, Jr. As Wesker's son, his unique blood type, which is fused with a T-Virus antibody, makes him an invaluable asset in stopping the outbreak. And like any good trailer, a question answered leaves just many more questions in its wake. At this point, it's still unclear who the black haired woman is, and what her involvement is with the entire fiasco.

Capcom has also recently announced that split-screen and online multiplayer will definitely return in this game. They have also announced that a "drop in/drop out" system will be integrated as well, which will make finding a game much simpler. There will be no need to return to checkpoints or wait for chapters to end before starting multiplayer games this time around. Capcom has also announced that the popular Mercenaries minigame will be unlocked from the start, as well. Players will still need to play the main game to unlock more features for the minigame, however.

At this point, Resident Evil 6 will be released on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 on October 2nd, with a PC version to follow at a later time. The game was initially slated to be a launch title for the upcoming Wii U, but Capcom producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi stated that it wasn't feasible at this time. They haven't ruled out releasing the game on the system at a later date, however. Check back for more Resident Evil info as it happens!
