Project Copernicus Trailer Explores Amalur Again

Despite mediocre sales, 38 Studios is putting out an Amalur MMORPG.

By Dylan Coffey on 5/21/2012
38 Studios, despite their recent financial troubles, still seems to be going strong on their next hope, "Project Copernicus." We now know that Copernicus is, in fact, an MMORPG set in the Amalur universe featured in 38 Studio's premier, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Though that game performed only moderately well as a result of hard competition from titles such as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and due to its placement in an intensely over-satured genre, it nonetheless succeeded enough to justify 38 Studios putting some serious work in on an MMORPG. Check out this trailer for a look at what they're cooking.

Though there is no gameplay footage here, there is a lot of pretty music and stunning visual art. These visuals are what might give Copernicus the edge in the hyper-competitive MMORPG market. What's essential, however, is that 38 Studios does not make the mistake that BioWare did with Star Wars: The Old Republic; another World of Warcraft knock-off isn't going to make the cut for Amalur if it couldn't succeed when attached to one of the world's most powerful IPs. With The Elder Scrolls Online also looking like a WoW clone, 38 Studios could snatch victory from between the giants' feet if they can put out a legitimately innovative MMORPG. All we can do is wait and see if they take the chance.

It certainly looks pretty, and the soundtrack is great. We'll see how it does as an MMO, though.

I love KOA Reckoning to death. And since vigil and THQ's Dark millenium isnt going to be an MMO. Unless MOP impresses the hell out of me i will probably stick to this!
