PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Officially Announced

Sony's rumored brawler title is now officially in the works

By Ben Harrison on 4/27/2012
For the last few months, there have been many rumors circulating about Sony's upcoming brawler game. Despite many "confirmed leaks" detailing which characters and levels will be present in the game, Sony remained tight lipped on the project. That is, until today. Sony has officially announced that SuperBot Entertainment is working on PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, and have even released a teaser video detailing the work so far.

What's not really surprising at all was that the only thing the internet got right about the game was that it was being made in the first place. Many different characters were "confirmed" to be in the game that haven't been shown yet, and many "leaked" screenshots were proven to be fake. At this point, the only confirmed characters are Kratos, Sweet Tooth, PaRappa the Rapper, Fat Princess, Sly Cooper, and Mael Radec of Killzone. Since all of these characters come from wildly different backgrounds, SuperBot Entertainment has gone to extraordinary lengths to incorporate parts of all of these games into one cohesive package. From the looks of it, the game could be a big hit, but it's entirely too early to tell at this point. The game has a tentative release date of later this year as a Playstation 3 exclusive, though there is (what else) a rumor that there might be Playstation Vita connectivity as well. Stay tuned for more info as it develops!

If they really market it A LOT, and support the game A LOT, it could hold some ground against Super Smash Bros, but as fun as this looks, I have doubts about its potential success.

I didn't listen to this with the sound on, so I don't know what was being said about the game. Yet this looks an awful lot like SSBM. Now, I figured it was inevitable until Sony came out with a game like this (XBOX next?), but did they have to make it look so much like it's competition? Right down to the moves Fat Peach...I mean Fat Princess is using.

I had heard about this. It looks interesting enough. I do wonder how it will compete with SSBB though.
