New The Last of Us Trailer Released

Joel and Ellie vs. guys with a truck - who ya got?

By Ben Harrison on 5/16/2012
There's been a lot of buzz lately surrounding Naughty Dog's latest game, The Last of Us. As a post-apocalyptic third person game, many early testers are claiming that this game will be what I Am Alive should have been. And in this latest trailer, it's easy to see why that might be a valid claim after all.

The game centers around Joel, a man out to survive no matter the cost, and Ellie, a 14-year-old with no memory of the world before now. In the trailer above, Joel and Ellie trek through a beautifully ruined city, ripe with regrowth and debris showing that something terrible might have happened here, but it happened a long time ago. As they journey further into town, scavengers try their best to stop Joel and Ellie in their tracks.

The footage seen so far looks amazing. The minute details on the characters, such as the worry lines on Joel's face, show that an extreme amount of time and patience has gone into making this game. And given Naughty Dog's track record, there's no way that this game won't live up to their standards with the Uncharted series. As a Playstation 3 exclusive, The Last of Us has a tentative release date of either late 2012 or early 2013.

I am definitely looking forward to this, but honestly, there isn't a selling point for me yet. I'll wait until I can get a feel for what the game actually feels like.

This certainly looks interesting. It'll be worth checking out, though I'm not a huge fan of the images I've seen of the monsters. The cinematic was really well done, and intrigued me.
