New HBO Comedy Series VEEP Debuts April 22

Julia Louis-Dreyfus as the vice president of the United States? Yes, please!

By Kaili Markley on 3/17/2012
HBO's new comedy series, VEEP, is set to premiere on Sunday, April 22 at 10PM EST. The behind-the-scenes political satire will star Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Armando Iannucci, who is also creator and executive producer of the series.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus plays Selina Meyer, a former senator cum vice president, who "discover(s) the job is nothing like she expected, but everything she was warned about... VEEP follows the whirlwind day-to-day existence of Vice President Meyer as she puts out political fires, juggles a busy public schedule and demanding private life, and defends the presidentʼs interests, even as she tries to improve her dysfunctional relationship with the chief executive."

The ensemble cast also includes Tony Hale (Arrested Development), Anna Chlumsky (In  The Loop, My Girl), Matt Walsh (Hung), and Reid Scott (My Boys).

"It is a true delight to work with HBO and Armando Iannucci," Louis-Dreyfus said in a statement. "I take the role of vice president very seriously, and although everyone says this is a comedy, I don't think there is anything funny at all about me being a heartbeat away from the presidency."

If Julia Louis-Dreyfus' performance is at all reminiscent of her genius as Elaine on Seinfeld, or her stint on Arrested Development -- heck, even The New Adventures of Old  Christine -- we're in for a treat. Judging from her track record and the promotional trailers, VEEP is one not to be missed this spring:
