Halo 4 Limited Edition Details Emerge

This Limited Edition isn't a bad deal, especially for fans of the Halo lore.

By Dylan Coffey on 5/16/2012
Details for Halo 4 have hit hot and heavy over the past couple of days. Yesterday, we showed you the box art; today, details on the game's episodic co-op multiplayer mode, Spartan Ops, as well as details on the title's Limited Edition bundle have come to light. The multiplayer mode isn't much to speak of; it's effectively a co-op campaign released to bits and pieces in order to make more money by providing extra content. The Limited Edition, running at a competitive $99.99, is more noteworthy.

Buyers of this Limited Edition will receive the following:
  • Free access to the War Games Map Packs, consisting of three packs of three maps, normally offered as post-launch DLC, to be downloaded as they are released.
  • Early access to six Specializations, allowing unique customization options. These will normally be released over time.
  • UNSC Infinity Briefing Packet, including an armor customization schematic, blueprints for the UNSC Infinity, and "insight into what it means to be one of humanity’s finest warriors: the Spartan-IVs."
  • A unique in-game Spartan-IV armor skin, weapon skin for the Assault Rifle, and in-game emblem.
  • Xbox LIVE Avatar prop and Spartan-IV armor set.
  • Extended 90-minute version of "Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn" along with bonus content expanding its characters and stories and a "Making Of" feature.
  • "Bringing Gaming Into Reality" special feature.

All in all, not a bad deal at all for a $40 markup. As has become common in the industry, the offer reeks of "Season Pass," but the low price point makes up for the sketchyness of that sort of offer. The Limited Edition is available for pre-order as of today, so interested parties should get on the ball soon.
