Grand Theft Auto V Headed to Next-Gen Consoles?

Rockstar North posts a vague job posting, internet gets in an uproar

By Ben Harrison on 1/17/2012
While the gaming world patiently waits for more news of Grand Theft Auto 5, Rockstar North has listed a job opening for an "environment artist." Job details include "building and texturing the world," among others. Being Scottish is probably a plus, too.

The big news about this posting, however, was that it originally read "You will...have the technical knowledge to achieve great looking results and the skill to get the most from next-gen consoles." This created quite a stir, since most people immediately took this to mean that Grand Theft Auto 5 wouldn't be released until the next game console development cycle. And given that Sony had stated that the Playstation 3 had up to a ten year life span, the next cycle could be quite a while off.

However, due to all of this uproar, Rockstar North has already changed the job posting. Now it calls for someone who has "the creative and technical knowledge to achieve the highest quality results within budget." Again, no titles are listed, and there's still no confirmed release date for Grand Theft Auto 5. And since no next-gen consoles have been announced except for the Wii U, it's a safe move to change the job posting to be more conservative towards the project. Regardless, if you feel like you have the talent to work for Rockstar North, apply today. This job surely won't stay open for too long.

I hope we don't have to wait, but I' rather the game not be rushed. If they can make a solid game before the PS4 comes out, great. If they have to wait THEN WAIT.

Also, I am in no way qualified to work for any video game company, but I would give my left foot to get a job at any of them.

I have been thinking about going to school for video game design but most of the schools are out to get your money, and they are quite expensive. Plus i can't decide what area i would want to go into, programming, level design, character design, etc.
