Final Fantasy VII Remake is Being Made... By a Fan

Fans of Final Fantasy VII have been clamoring for a remake for years. Even with Final Fantasy XIII-2 producer Yoshinori Kitase saying that a re-release is less than likely, one dedicated fan has taken it upon himself to create an unofficial redux all by himself. Using the Unreal Engine and starting from scratch, this fan-made gem looks like it's off to a promising start.

The legacy of Final Fantasy VII cannot be overstated. For many gamers, it was the entry point for Japanese style RPGs, and for Square Enix it still remains one of their best selling games. Many official spin-offs were created from the main game, with a number of supporting characters given full titles of their own. However, given that the original release was the the culmination of hours of work from a huge team, the fact that one fan has undertaken this massive project is staggering.

One can't help but wonder if the project will be able to cover all three discs of the original release, or exactly how far it progresses before Square Enix issues a cease and desist order.
