Bethesda Shows Off Skyrim's Post-Release Gems

If all of this stuff from in the game, we'd never stop playing.

By Dylan Coffey on 2/9/2012
As our Game of the Year 2011 and a recipient of a perfect review scoreThe Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is obviously one of our favorite games here at The Game Effect. With its unimaginable scope and unlimited replayability, it goes without saying that Skyrim is a title that will remain a classic for years down the line. However, as an experiment, the folks at Bethesda conducted a week-long free-for-all wherein developers were given a single order: "make whatever you want and put it in the game." Here's what they came up with.

There is some downright cool stuff here. In particular, we'd love to see the ranged and magical kill cams, spears, goblins, adoption, and housebuilding implemented in the real game. Fortunately, with the Skyrim Creation Kit having just hit, this video's ideas won't take long to become reality; some of these were modded in before the Creation Kit even hit, such as paralysis effects and follower command expansions. Our favorite part of this, though, is the question at the end regarding the potential of this sort of free-form development. In the end, that free-form energy is what makes the mod scene thrive, and a "jam" like this will help to bring that fact to developers' eyes.
