Avengers Assemble - The superhero teamup of a lifetime Review
Thank god it was in ours.
And by God, they did it. Marvel studios has created a stunning movie that blew away box office numbers, and set the standard for all other superhero movies to come. For a project that's had 5 movies to set itself up, it has certainly given us all that was promised, and then some. The characters work well with eachother, and they play off of eachother's personalities the way they should.
Banner and Stark make a fantastic snarky team in the lab. Romanoff and Barton have more of their back stories explained. Rogers is still dealing with what is to him, a new world. While Loki continues to manipulate all, Thor still thinks he can be redeemed. Fury is his usual cryptic badass self, while Coulson and Hill have more screentime (hopefully with much more to come).
Joss Whedon did a great job of working the script so that it was full of action and drama, and someone who hasn't seen the setup movies could easily pick up on what's going on. (Which is fantastic for me who had previously only seen the first Ironman). While Whedon does continue with his bad habit, it was a well done and needed move that pushes the story along quite nicely.
The movie has only been out in America for a week, but it has already brought in a little over $270 million, $207.4 million of which coming from opening weekend alone. When you add in the foreign box office numbers, they've almost made 4 times their production budget. And the numbers will continue to grow.
This should go without saying for a superhero movie, but stay through the credits. All of them. I'm certainly looking forward to the next few Marvel releases, I'm just hoping that we get some more characters involved. Too bad we'll probably be missing a few classics. The bar has been set, what other superhero movies are going to rise to the challenge?
